Senate Pushes Its 'Cures' Plan With Bipartisan Staff Workgroup, March Hearings-insidehealthpolicy: The Senate health committee's top Republican and Democrat on Tuesday (Feb. 3) announced they will tap a bipartisan staff working group next week and hold hearings in March to advance a medical innovation effort that complements the House's 21st Century Cures Initiative. The hearings will examine the respective roles of FDA and the National Institutes of Health in getting safe treatments, devices and cures to patients, committee chair Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and ranking Democrat Patty Murray (WA) suggested in a joint press release.
